Centro de Interpretación del Gran Chaco Americano

The Gran Chaco Americano Interpretation Center is the main museum and starting point for discovering Paraguay's Central Chaco. It was inaugurated on August 13, 2020, by the National Tourism Secretariat (SENATUR), with then-President Mario Abdo Benítez in attendance, as part of a tourism development program that received Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funding for infrastructure in the area (roads, water and sanitation, health centers). It stands at the entrance to the city of Filadelfia, capital of Boquerón department.

Its 1,800 m² building combines sustainable architecture with solar panels and a three-wing layout harmoniously integrated into the flat Chaco landscape (no documentary support was found for the claim — present in earlier versions of this text — that the building's shape evokes a three-banded armadillo; official sources describe a bioclimatic design without that reference). The center offers a modern museographic exhibition on the fauna, flora, history, and diversity of the indigenous peoples of the Western Region, plus an 84-seat theater with a 4K projector and motorized screen, a library, a crafts and souvenir shop, and a SENATUR tourist information office.

Admission is free, and it is the best first stop for understanding everything the Gran Chaco has to offer before touring the Mennonite colonies and indigenous communities of the area.
