About this business

Bar San Roque holds the title of Asunción's oldest restaurant, with over 120 years of uninterrupted history. Founded in 1900 by a Spanish immigrant named Vidondo, its tables have witnessed the political, social and cultural evolution of Paraguay. Presidents of the Republic, scientists, writers, artists, diplomats and athletes have all dined here without its essence ever changing. The atmosphere and décor seem to have been frozen in the 1970s, lending it a unique nostalgic charm that travelers immediately appreciate. The menu combines Paraguayan gastronomic tradition with German influences incorporated over the decades: abundant breakfasts with chipá and cake, bife koygua (classic Paraguayan meat with cheese), Paraguayan soup, beef stew, sauerkraut with sausages, milanesas and comforting soups. Prices are very affordable and portions are generous.
