Ñemby was founded in 1718 by Diego de los Reyes Balmaceda. At that time it did not carry the name it holds today: it was called San Lorenzo de la Frontera. Over time that original name was set aside and the city took on the name Ñemby, the one it still carries more than three centuries after that founding. That change settled in over the years, until Ñemby became the only name by which this city in the Central department is known. Under that name, and with that history behind it, the restaurant Don Cangrejo Lomiteria operates in this same city today.
