About this business

The Museum of Memories: Dictatorship and Human Rights is one of the most important commemorative spaces in Latin America. It operates in the building that served as headquarters of the Asunción Police Investigations Department, popularly known as 'La Técnica', one of the main centers of detention, torture and forced disappearance during the dictatorship of General Alfredo Stroessner, who governed Paraguay for 35 years between 1954 and 1989. The museum displays original documents, photographs, personal items belonging to victims, audio and video testimonials, and recreates detention environments that help visitors understand the magnitude of the violations committed. Internationally recognized by the Sites of Conscience organization, the museum is a space for reflection, memory and commitment to human rights. For foreign visitors, especially Latin Americans and Europeans, this museum offers a unique perspective on a dark but fundamental chapter in the recent history of Paraguay. Admission is free.
