About this business

The Museo del Barro, officially named the Centro de Artes Visuales (Visual Arts Center), is Paraguay's most important private cultural institution and one of South America's most remarkable art museums. Founded in 1972 by artists Carlos Colombino and Osvaldo Salerno, the museum houses more than 10,000 pieces across three major collections: contemporary Paraguayan art, folk and indigenous art, and works by the Grabadores del Kabayú Kandí — a historic workshop that established printmaking as an art discipline in Paraguay. For foreign visitors, the Museo del Barro offers a unique immersion into Paraguayan cultural identity: ritual masks, ñandutí lacework, fired clay sculptures, paintings by artists such as Ricardo Migliorisi and Olga Blinder, and a dedicated section featuring the art of Guaraní and other indigenous communities. The building, set in a residential neighborhood of Asunción, features permanent and temporary exhibition halls, an auditorium and a specialized bookshop. Admission is free on Fridays and Saturdays; Tuesday to Thursday the entry fee is 50,000 guaraníes. A must-visit to understand Paraguay's artistic soul.
