About this business

The National Fine Arts Museum of Asunción is Paraguay's oldest museum institution. It was founded in 1909 by collector and patron Juan Silvano Godoy, who donated his personal collection to the Paraguayan state to create this cultural space. Located in downtown Asunción on Eligio Ayala street, the museum holds a permanent collection of over 650 works including oil paintings, watercolors, bronze and marble sculptures, ceramics and photographs. The collection covers both Paraguayan artists from the 19th and 20th centuries — such as Pablo Alborno and Jaime Bestard — as well as works by European and Latin American artists. For foreign visitors, the museum offers an essential panorama of Paraguayan artistic development from the post-War of the Triple Alliance era to modernity. The heritage building features architecture typical of the late republican period. Admission is completely free, making it one of the best low-cost cultural destinations in Asunción.
