About this business

The Teatro Municipal Ignacio A. Pane is Paraguay's most important stage and its greatest cultural theater. Its history began on November 4, 1855, when President Carlos Antonio López ordered the transformation of the National Congress chamber into a space dedicated to the performing arts, thus inaugurating the country's oldest theater. The neoclassical building was declared a UNESCO Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1997, a recognition that positions it as one of the most significant historic theaters in South America. In 1939, it was renamed in honor of Ignacio A. Pane, a Paraguayan writer, journalist and politician who promoted culture and the arts. After a comprehensive restoration between 2004 and 2005, the theater reopened its doors in January 2006 with all its magnificence restored. Today it is the venue for Paraguay's major opera, ballet, theater and classical music performances. For foreign travelers who love the performing arts and architecture, attending a show at the Teatro Municipal is a unique and unforgettable cultural experience in the heart of Asunción.
