About Cerro Corá

Cerro Corá is a district in the Amambay department of northeastern Paraguay, best known for hosting Cerro Corá National Park, a protected area that preserves cerrado and interior Atlantic Forest ecosystems. The park holds particular historical significance: on its hills, the battle of March 1, 1870, the final engagement of the War of the Triple Alliance, was fought, and it was there that Marshal Francisco Solano López died. The landscape is defined by the hills of the Amambay mountain range and a predominantly rural setting where extensive cattle ranching and small-scale farming underpin the local economy. The national park makes Cerro Corá a point of interest for both historical and nature tourism within the department.
