About Ciudad Vieja
Ciudad Vieja is the founding core of Asunción, located at the northwestern end of the capital, on the bay of the Paraguay River. It is part of the Historic Center of the city and one of the oldest urban sectors in South America, since Asunción is known as the "Mother of Cities" for being the area of longest continuous habitation in the Río de la Plata basin. The area preserves picturesque colonial houses with flower-filled balconies and ornamental details, along with neoclassical and late 19th-century buildings. Its heritage landmarks include the Manzana de la Rivera, a set of nine colonial houses from the 18th and 19th centuries now converted into a cultural center and museum, and the Panteón Nacional de los Héroes. The neighborhood is undergoing revitalization processes and public investment plans. The real estate offer is scarce and atypical: historic mansions, properties for restoration, and units in old buildings. It is an area of cultural and tourist interest, with opportunities for investors willing to restore heritage in the founding heart of the city.
