About Itaipú

The Itaipú neighborhood of Hernandarias takes its name from the eponymous dam, whose facilities are located within the municipality's territory. The dam, the result of the binational treaty between Paraguay and Brazil signed in 1973, is the world's largest hydroelectric plant by annual energy production and has defined Hernandarias's identity as Paraguay's energy and industrial hub.
