About Nueva Italia

Nueva Italia is a district of the Central department whose name reflects the immigrant origins of its first settlers, who arrived from Italy as part of the European migratory movements that established communities in Paraguay during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This heritage forms part of the municipality's local identity, shared with other communities in the Paraguayan interior shaped by European agricultural colonisation. Located in the southern part of Central department, Nueva Italia maintains a character that blends the agricultural legacy of its founders with the gradual process of integration into the Asunción metropolitan area. The locality is representative of the diversity of origins that characterises Paraguay's most populous department.
