About Canindeyú

Canindeyú occupies the far northeast of Paraguay's Región Oriental, directly bordering Brazil, with its capital at Salto del Guairá. The department is one of the country's most expansive agricultural zones, driven by soybean production that has transformed large tracts of land into areas of intensive cultivation. Proximity to Brazil has historically fueled cross-border trade and the influx of Brazilian-origin agricultural investment. The city of Salto del Guairá takes its name from the legendary Guairá Falls, which were submerged beneath the Itaipú reservoir in 1982. It is the department's main commercial center and a significant transit point along the Paraguayan-Brazilian border corridor. Canindeyú combines agricultural dynamism with the cultural influence of that border.
