About Caaguazú

Caaguazú is one of the largest departments in Paraguay's Región Oriental. Its capital, Coronel Oviedo, is a strategic commercial hub in the country's interior: situated along the main highway connecting Asunción with Ciudad del Este, it concentrates services, trade, and agribusiness for a wide area of the central-east. Agricultural production — especially soybeans, maize, and cattle ranching — is the department's economic engine. Caaguazú has undergone sustained agricultural development driven in part by Brazilian-origin colonies established in recent decades. The department combines areas of intensive commercial farming with family-scale production zones, giving it a diverse productive profile within eastern Paraguay.
