About Roque González de Santa Cruz

Roque González de Santa Cruz is a district in the Paraguarí department named in honor of the Jesuit missionary born in Asunción in the sixteenth century, canonized by the Catholic Church as the patron of Paraguay. Its territory in the southern Oriental Region presents agricultural landscapes of plains suited to cattle ranching and the cultivation of grains and locally consumed produce. The district maintains the rural character of Paraguay's interior, with communities that preserve customs and festivities linked to the region's Guaraní-Christian heritage. Daily life revolves around family agricultural production, in a setting that reflects the deep rural Paraguay of the department's southern reaches.
